![]() Once the yeast has foamed, whisk in the melted butter (margarine is perfectly fine), vanilla (flavour!), and eggs. At this point, you should melt the butter so it can cool down while the yeast is proofing. Either way, this means you'll have to dump it out and waste another cup of milk. If it doesn't, your milk is too hot or your yeast is dead. Don't stir the mixture, just allow it to sit on the counter for 5-10 minutes to wake the yeast up. The sugar is food for they yeast and helps it foam up. Pour warm milk into a medium bowl, or keep it in your liquid measuring cup, then sprinkle the yeast on top along with ½ teaspoon of sugar. However, if the milk is too hot, you can easily let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to cool down. You don't want the milk to be too hot or too cold, it should be warm enough for you to comfortably keep your finger in. I just microwaved my milk in 30 second intervals and stuck a clean finger in it as a test.
